Period blocked? Learn how to update certain fields!

SAP software offers features that simplify your SME’s operations. Every week, we share tips that highlight how these features can benefit your business.

In SAP Business One, you can update certain fields in accounting entries, even when the posting period is locked. This option avoids the need to constantly unlock the period, allowing for occasional adjustments without compromising data integrity.

In accounting, posting periods follow a structured cycle: while a new period is opened, the previous one is closed. To ensure data integrity, previous periods are often set to “Locked” status, preventing changes.

But what if you need to make one-off adjustments?

Instead of unlocking and relocking the period, SAP Business One allows you to configure the updating of certain fields in accounting postings, even when the posting period is locked:

By default, this checkbox is not selected. When selected, you can update the fields Ref. 1, Ref. 2, Ref. 3, Remarks, and User-Defined Fields header and lines in journal entries recorded for posting period with status “Locked”.

Available in SAP Business One 10.0 FP 2011 and SAP Business One 10.0 FP 2011, version for SAP HANA.
